Make it stand out
-
This project transforms the rear of a classic Californian Bungalow in Box Hill, introducing a modern two-storey extension while preserving the original street-facing façade. The front of the house retains its heritage charm, with the red brick and weatherboard detailing intact, while the new addition at the rear provides contemporary living spaces.
A central courtyard creates a connection between the original home and the extension, allowing light to penetrate the interior and enhancing the sense of openness. Charred timber cladding and white brick clearly distinguish the new from the old, celebrating the building’s evolution over time. The design strikes a balance between respecting the historical character of the property and accommodating modern family life.
