Victoria Hotel, Melbourne

Construction of New Accommodation Rooms on the Roof Top Level of an Existing Hotell

  • The proposal is a single storey extension to the existing Victoria Hotel, comprising a mix of apartment suites and hotel rooms oriented to capture views of Melbourne’s city skyline. The design seeks to pay homage to the diverse architectural styles within the surrounding context, mediating the transition between the old and the new.

Responding to the unique roof form and structural conditions of the existing building, the extension adopts a parasitic architectural approach, prioritising adaptation and assimilation over replacement. This strategy allows the new intervention to respect the historical fabric while introducing a contemporary layer that enhances both the hotel’s functionality and its presence within the urban landscape.
